4/12/2005 - Update
Dr. Cohen's nurse finally sent the results of Don's last blood tests, and we were quite pleased with the news. There is a whole page of tests and there are more than 45 items that are checked. However, there was only one item (his anemia) that was at a "critical" level. There were 5 that were "high", but most were in the "normal" range. We rejoice in this, and ask for you to pray that the bleeding stop (it does seem to have diminished some), and that his bone marrow produce more blood. The visiting hospice nurse indicated that they would be terminating their services soon because he "is currently stable".
You may recall that I mentioned our mentors, Edwin and Ruth Messerschmidt. He is 87 and Ruth is 83, and yesterday we received the following from Edwin:
"On Saturday, April 9, at 1pm as Ruth finished her dinner, she had a severe stroke that left her unable to speak or move as she became partially paralyzed -- we rushed her to the Tuscaloosa DCH hospital where she was given the TPA enzyme to dissolve the blood clot in her brain. Ruth's paralysis has affected the right side of her body.
Today, April 12, she has regained a very limited movement in her right let and arm. She has been unable to swallow because of paralysis in her throat, but tests this morning are to help her in this area. To date, she is also unable to speak so as to be understood, so we are asking special prayer for these two areas. She is alert and knows people as well as her surroundings. We wanted you to be updated on Ruth and her condition and request prayer for the Lord's healing and restoring Ruth's ability to function normally. She will need much prayer to be able to walk and speak again."
Please keep them in your prayers. I may have told you that Don wanted a new recliner for Christmas, but since he did not expect to be here, we did not buy one. A couple of weeks ago, he decided that he was going to go, and this weekend while I was in Florida, Don went and picked out a chair and had it delivered. He said if he was going to be here for awhile, he wanted to be comfortable!
Again we appreciate your love and prayers and trust God to bless you abundantly...
With HIS Love and Grace,
marykay
